European Gymnastics Championships: Alice Kinsella wins balance beam gold

Great Britain's Alice Kinsella has won balance beam gold at the European Championships in Poland.

The 18-year-old scored 13.566 to beat the new European all-around champion Melanie dos Santos by 0.1 marks in Szczecin.

It is Kinsella's second success on the beam after she took Commonwealth Games gold in 2018.

Kinsella's medal took Britain's tally at the championships to two golds, one silver and one bronze.

Max Whitlock won the first gold in Saturday's pommel final, and Ellie Downie followed up Friday's all-around silver with vault bronze.

Kinsella said: "It's been a rollercoaster for me. My all-around competition didn't go to plan but I knew I had today to put that right.

"I was so nervous watching the rest of the girls compete and to come away with our first ever European beam medal feels absolutely amazing."

Immediately after her medal ceremony, Kinsella was also involved in the floor final. Despite having no time to warm up she still managed to score 13.1 - an improvement on her qualifying result - to place seventh overall.

Claudia Fragapane counted one stumble as her score of 13.336 gave her fifth place in the same discipline.

Fragapane was competing in her first major competition since Achilles surgery in March last year.

In the men's finals, there was a seventh place finish for Brinn Bevan on parallel bars and Courtney Tulloch was eighth in the vault.

James Hall withdrew from the high bar final after he fell from the apparatus and left the arena clutching his shoulder. The injury is not thought to be serious.
