GYMNASTICS ROW Gymnastics could ‘die’ as governing body British Gymnastics ‘restricts’ growth

Hundreds of children are being prevented from taking part in sport because British Gymnastics is attempting to restrict a competitor’s business, it is claimed. Independent body UK Gymnastics says the sport could “die” as a result. British Gymnastics has refuted the allegations, which come after talkSPORT revealed similar claims against the Football Association by the United Kingdom’s leading provider of five-a-side football.UK Gymnastics is a grassroots organisation, which attracts 7,500 children per week to its 82 gymnastics clubs. With the Tokyo 2020 Olympics fast approaching the qualifying campaign is well underway to secure those precious Olympic places. In artistic gymnastics the process began at the 2018 World Championships with both our men’s and women’s teams safely progressing through to the next team qualifying event in Stuttgart later this year. British Gymnastics has announced the appointment of its new Chair, Mike Darcey who will take over from outgoing Chair Matt Neville. Matt is stepping down after eight successful years and having served the maximum term. Beth Tweddle former gymnast to take legal action against makers of CH4s The Jump

It was reported on the 25th January 2019 that Olympic bronze medal-winning gymnast Beth Tweddle has taken the decision to take legal action against the makers of Channel 4's TV show 'The Jump' as a result of her fracturing her vertebrae on the reality TV show back 2016. The 33-year-old required surgery on her neck and spinal cord after hitting a barrier when landing.
